International Journal of Regional Anaesthesia welcomes articles that contribute to Anaesthesia knowledge from all countries. Articles are accepted only for exclusive publication in the International Journal of Regional Anaesthesia. Previously published articles, even those in peer-reviewed electronic publications, are not accepted by the Journal. Published articles and illustrations become the property of the Journal. All studies should be carried out in accordance with the World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki. Manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the “Uniform requirements for Manuscripts submitted to Biomedical Journal” developed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (April 2010). The uniform requirements and specific requirements of the International Journal of Regional Anaesthesia are summarized below. Before sending a manuscript contributors are requested to check for the latest instructions available. Instructions are also available from the website of the journal and from the manuscript submission site (Click Here).

The Editorial Process

The manuscript will be reviewed for possible publication with the understanding that they are being submitted to one journal at a time and has not been published, simultaneously submitted, or already accepted for publication elsewhere. Violation may lead to serious action against authors as per COPE guidelines.
The Editorial Board will review all submitted manuscripts initially.
Manuscripts that seem to lack scientific message or content are rejected at first instance. Journal will not return unaccepted manuscripts.
Manuscripts that are not formatted as per journal guidelines will be sent for correct formatting before the review process
The manuscript that gets approval from the editorial board and is formatted as per guidelines, will be sent for peer review by at least two expert reviewers [this number may exceed in cases where we do not get a definitive answer by two reviews]. The review process is blinded for the author, Institution, or place of origin of the manuscript. The journal wishes to publish the names of all our reviewers, however, the reviewers’ names will be kept blinded
The editorial team takes a final decision based on the comments received from the reviewers and also from the section editors
The contributors are usually informed about the reviewers’ comments and acceptance/rejection within a period of 8-10 weeks. This period may get extended in cases where more than two opinions are needed.
Articles accepted would be copy-edited for grammar, punctuation, print style, and format. All articles will also be rewritten by the Editorial team and a final copy will be sent to authors for approval
Page proofs will be sent to the corresponding author, which has to be returned within 4 days.

Publication Policies

Ethics: Although the staff at the International Journal of Regional Anaesthesia journals department and the journal editors may be able to note a breach of publication policy or ethical conduct after publication, we rely heavily on the reviewers to detect such problems before publication. International Journal of Regional Anaesthesia publication policies are described in the Instructions to Authors, which are available online. Some of the items for which you should be alert include:

Plagiarism – Plagiarism is not limited to the Results and Discussion sections; it can involve any part of the manuscript, including figures and tables, in which material is copied from another publication without attestation, reference, or permission. Note that wording does not have to be exact to be copyright infringement; the use of very similar words in almost the same sequence can also be infringement. Data themselves are not copyrightable, but their presentation is.
Missing or incomplete attestation – Authors must give appropriate credit to ideas, concepts, and data that have been published previously. This is accomplished by the inclusion of references. Missing, incomplete, or incorrect references must be brought to the editor’s attention.
Dual submission and/or publication – Be wary of attempts to submit/publish similar material more than once. This is often difficult to detect “before the fact,” but checking literature citations, as well as having a critical eye, is helpful.
Conflicts of interest – If you are aware of any commercial affiliations, consultancies, stock or equity interests, or patent-licensing arrangements on the part of the authors, bring them to the attention of the editor.
Note that similar conflicts of interest on your part must also be brought to the attention of the editor, who may, at his discretion, subsequently cancel your invitation to review the manuscript. If one of the manuscript authors is at your institution, there could be a perceived conflict of interest, and you should immediately contact the editor so that another individual can be invited to review the manuscript in your place.

In summary, you must communicate suspicions of policy or ethics problems directly to the editor, who in turn will contact the editor in chief. Under no circumstance should you contact the author directly. International Journal of Regional Anaesthesia has policies for investigation and resolution of such problems and these must be followed.
